A blog? IT IS a waste of time.
That was my first real impression about blogging. I thought blogging was something for the introspective soul: people who like to write poems, life musings, rants and other personal stuff about their family and their dogs and cats.
I started blogging less than a year ago. Before that I met someone and agreed to write a lot of articles - a few of these required research while most articles follow the review type format: the one that uses URL and keywords or anchor text stuff. It was a lot of work and I was pressured to submit these for a very short time.
A lot shorter than the 6 hour PPP deadline had been giving to its members!
Then during one of my free times, I tried to figure out where my articles and reviews went. Google was my close friend of mine whom I pay to visit everyday: I typed in "paid reviews" and PayPerPost came up like magic!
That was when I learned more about blogging. I browsed through some members and viewed their blogs. Most blogs that I've seen were that from the ladies - the one with a lot of widgets, flowery stuff and kids. There were some blogs from the men too - the fast loading simple ones with clean masculine designs which I personally prefer.
Most blogs that I've discovered have been writing stuff that have been assigned to me. It occurred to me that I can do that kind of writing.
I set out with Mr. Google as my guide. He answered some of my questions: What is blogging? How can I blog? What do I need to start blogging? How do I earn through blogging?
I decided to make two blogs, one at Blogger and one at Wordpress. I wanted to try out each one and decide later which one is better.
I did not give up writing for somebody, but I slowly built my blog. Then I started to earn real cash after a few months.
I still write for somebody, but not the same person that I have dealt with the first time. This client pays higher but not as high as what I received directly at PayPerPost and Sponsored Reviews.
He just bumped into my main blog just the other week. He was impressed!
I don't know if I would still continue to write more bulk articles for someone or probably continue with his offer of doing social bookmarking services, but I think it is time for me to move on and work for myself - and receive a better pay.
I have already grown a tree, and now I am adding some seedlings to add to that bigger tree.

I heard about blogging years ago and I knew that bloggers earn money. But I thought that the money come only from the Adsense and AdBrite widgets so I did not start a blog because I knew that it will probably take 48 years for a new and virtually unknown blog to reach the $100 minimum payout for Adsense and AdBrite. I was also very much active in forums so I really did not have the time to start a blog. But it was always at the back of my mind. Like you Gem I learned more about blogging, its ins and outs, through other blogs. When i finally decided to start a blog I also started two blogs, and like you, I used Wordpress and Blogger. Then I found out that Wordpress is not kind to bloggers who want to earn a little from paid posts and other ads. So I abandoned my Wordpress blog (until now it is still up). I concentrated on Blogger. I started earning three months ago.
Blogging eats up a lot of your time but it is worth it.
Two things I like about blogging : the money, and the chance to touch people. I find it very rewarding to see people react (negatively or positively) to something you have posted, it is like throwing a pebble in the pond and you see ripples. I love to see the flags in my sidebar. It make me happy to see that I have connected with other people from different parts of the world. It is amazing, some come from places i haven't even heard about and they comment on some of my posts. Blogging is a wonderful thing. It is not a waste of time :)
Hahah! 48 years? You computed it?
From your writing personality I see that you love forums a lot. I think I would not be wrong to assume that you like to chat too.
At least you're earning from your blabs hehehe!
I also met new bloggers who amazingly made their way to the top!
Yes I love forums but I am not very much into chatting, I rarely chat. My YM is always on but I am invisible to everyone. My YM is Pastilan1971, what's yours? just e-mail it to me anyway, doon sa hotmail ko. I always chat with my brother. But a few days ago i chatted with Pchi of OpinionPinoy. I was awake 2 a.m., she was awake too, and I saw her online so we chatted for a while in our own language (cebuano kasi kmi pareho).
When i chat i tend to type too long, not the usual one liners you normally see in chat rooms, kung ano yung haba ng comments ko sa blogs ganun din yung sa chat, di ko maiwasan, i type too much. :)
@Pastilan
I can't understand other languages, but I'll try to catch you online one of these days.
I guess that is your conversation habit. Quite rare! :-)
