My father is the quiet type of man. He is still working in his senior age, doing one-man surveying jobs as a geodetic engineer. He is a hands-on guy – he likes doing home maintenance such as carpentry and painting rather than hiring people who can do that. His rough hands were very useful in fixing out old beloved VW Beetle which works perfectly in our rugged highlands. He is intelligent – I taught him how to use this computer and he was surfing the internet, checking emails and composing and printing documents. He is able to keep pace with new technology pretty well – I can just leave him alone to explore his new bought cell phone.

Except for the gout arthritis attack that he had suffered weeks earlier, he is still in very good health. He’s now in mid-60’s but he’s still very strong. He’s the one who’s
sending and fetching my kid to and from school. He’s still the strongest person in the house and I think he will still be for the years to come. He’s actively taking care of his health – he eats healthy foods to make him healthy in the long run. He did not believe in the power of medicines that medical doctors recommend – and he seemed to be on the right track, unlike his peers who had already suffered lifestyle-related diseases such as heart attack, diabetes and cancer. He just believed in eating right and finding other ways to heal without the harmful chemicals of traditional medicines.
Having a parent who’s into healthy lifestyle is something that I really appreciate. This surely saved me from spending part of my earnings for expensive treatments and hospital bills. Perhaps I am not one of those kids who keep on persuading their parents to eat right and follow doctor’s orders: I didn’t need to do that anymore. Those treatments and bills are better spent for the things that will make him enjoy the rest of his life such as
road trips and tours in or out of the country.
I’m sure I will still count several enjoyable years with my father. He isn’t the person whom I can open up to and ask for advice but he is the one who got strong good examples that I really like to follow.
